Why It’s OK To Talk To Your Mom Everyday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

I’m starting off this article with a tweet that inspired this entire article. Have you ever found yourself sincerely relating to this? If you answered yes, has anyone ever given you flack for the fact that you talk to your mom every day? No, seriously, apparently it’s an issue with some college students who think it’s just totally lame! When you’re away at college, you don’t have to be ashamed of talking with your mom every single day. It’s not a bad thing to keep in contact with her constantly; in fact, it’s actually a wise thing to do for many different reasons.

1. So you can have someone to talk to.

Ae you in-between classes but all your friends are busy? Just give your mother a call and tell her how your day is going so far. Just like in the tweet at the beginning of this article, you can even tell her about the food you ate today! I like to call mine and tell her about the Chik-Fil-A I had or any animals I saw on campus. It may seem crazy to tell your mom about these types of things, but I swear she’ll appreciate it because she loves hearing about your adventures at college; even the mundane details.

Since being away from college, as weird as it may sound, I’ve been in constant contact with my mom nearly every single day. That’s not an exaggeration, by the way, I’m pretty much always texting her from when I wake up and get ready for class to when I just get home from getting things done during the day.

2. To get some wise advice.

Sometimes you really need an older person’s perspective on things, and you don’t always want to ask your friends first about everything. For me, if I’m thinking of doing something cool or different, or even going to a new event, I always ask my mom about it before making a decision. Chances are that your mom has been through what you’re going through before so you never know what great advice she has to offer you! Don’t underestimate the knowledge and power of mothers, especially when you’re away at school.

3. For safety purposes.

Believe it or not, your family is always looking out for you when you’re away. Especially when you’re at college, this becomes even more of a fact. If you’re going to be on campus late, you’re going somewhere like downtown, or if something like a power outage occurs while you’re on campus, you can always send your location to your mom. You never know what could possibly happen, and you can never be too safe!

Some people may tell you it’s weird, or even uncool to talk to your mom every day. But really, those people are the uncool ones. Don’t let them deter you from caring about the people you love…just read the sub-headline!
