Blazers Are Your Most Versatile Wardrobe Item: Here’s How To Style Them

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Whenever a new year rolls around, I get in the mood to freshen things up a little. I always think it’s fun to try and step outside my fashion box and create cute new fits. If this is a goal for you as well, I have a simple suggestion that will revolutionize your wardrobe: a blazer. I know some people are skeptical of them, but I think blazers have undeservingly been given a bad rap. For too long, blazers were considered strictly professional attire or menswear. Here are some cute ways to make a blazer the most versatile piece in your closet:

with a dress

This option alone is very versatile and you can use different combinations to cater to your own style. Here, I opted for a short dress, but blazers with longer dresses can look great also. I love the look of a silk dress and a black blazer paired with sneakers. You can play around with different combinations depending on how informal or formal you want the look to be.

This is one of my go-to outfits because it’s so easy, comfortable and looks put together every time. Again, you can switch around the color of the blazer, but black is my staple color. Underneath, you can wear a t-shirt, bodysuit or even a crop top like I’m wearing here.

with An All-Black Fit

There’s just something about an all-black outfit that looks so good. You can do this by pairing a black blazer with trousers, jeans or even a skirt (which I’ll touch on later). Here, I am wearing a leather blazer, which I think adds some contrast. Of course, any kind of black blazer would be perfect.

With A Skirt

Something about the blazer and skirt combo just screams “I have my life together” to me. It’s definitely something I want to try more of in the future. While this example utilizes a short skirt, I’ve also seen this combo played out with longer skirts. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

In terms of getting your hands on blazers, my best suggestion is the thrift store. My favorite and most-worn blazer I actually found at Buffalo Exchange for a very reasonable price. Alternatively, H&M and Zara are good options too.

2023 is here and there’s no better time than now to revitalize your style. If you’re still struggling to get out of that fashion rut, a blazer can become your new best friend. No matter how you style it, you’re sure to look chic and put together. For more on versatile clothing pieces, check out this article about building a capsule wardrobe.
