Can Taylor Swift Make It to the Super Bowl?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Taylor Swift is taking over the NFL, and everyone seems to have something to say about it. I, for one, welcome her presence amongst the male majority of football fans, as an occasional sports watcher myself. Swift’s relationship with “the boy on the football team“, Travis Kelce, has allowed football to become more popular amongst every college girl. New football watchers have tuned in this season, with hundreds of videos online showing not only Taylor Swift at the games, but Kelce’s plays, too. The Kansas City Chiefs’ win on January 28th even prompted a kiss between Swift and Kelce, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say I hope it isn’t the “Last Kiss” they share on the football field. With that being said, how realistic is it that Taylor would actually go to the Super Bowl following this win?

Well, she definitely has luck on her side. Not only is it Taylor’s 13th game, but the day is so riddled with 13s (her lucky number), that she can’t pass up the opportunity. Swift will be performing in Tokyo for her Eras Tour the day before the Super Bowl (2/11) as her last stop in the city. And what is 2 + 11? 13. The flight from Tokyo to Las Vegas (where the Super Bowl will be held), is also 13 hours. The Chiefs will be playing the San Francisco 49ers (4 + 9 = 13), and the 49er’s star quarterback’s number is 13. It’s safe to say that Taylor truly is “The Lucky One“, so it would almost be unlucky for Taylor not to go, right? Well, there’s a chance she won’t.

From a logistical perspective, the journey across mutliple continents is no small feat in itself. Taylor would have to leave less than two hours after the concert ends to make it to the game on time, and the hours spent in the air is enough to make anyone “Crazier“. Also, with the immense amount of backlash Taylor has received from online trolls for “ruining” the NFL, it makes sense why she wouldn’t want to go. Maybe she wants to stay “Safe and Sound” in Tokyo, far away from the die hard football fans that tell her she destroyed the NFL, even though she’s generated over $330 million dollars in revenue for the league.

While these “rumors are terrible and cruel” (but most of them aren’t true), there are some more exciting speculations people have surrounding this day. Many Switfties think she will be possibly replacing or accompanying Usher as a Super Bowl Halftime performer or that she will be releasing her long-awaited re-recording of reputation. Now, is it delusional to think that she will sing alongside Usher after performing across the world for almost three weeks or re-release one of her most popular albums? Yes. But let’s all be the girls that live in delusion a la “Right Where You Left Me“, thinking she will make the trek to Las Vegas to see her boyfriend play arguably one of the most important games of his career, after a not-so-successful season for the Chiefs.

Clearly, we all want Taylor to go to the Super Bowl. Seeing Taylor’s budding friendship with Britney Mahomes (the wife of another Chiefs player) and impeccable game day fashion will make the game so much more fun to watch. So, no matter who wins or loses, we can all live vicariously through Taylor if she chooses to attend the game; and if she doesn’t, I hope there isn’t any “Bad Blood” between Chiefs fans and Swifties!
