Depop x Detoure Is Coming To UCLA & You Need To Be There

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Calling all UCLA thrift babes! If you haven’t heard yet, Depop, an online secondhand clothing marketplace, has partnered up with the viral influencer thrift store, Detoure to give UCLA students the ultimate shopping and styling experience. Both companies share values of sustainability and slowing down fast fashion, all while still looking trendy and feeling like your best self. This dream partnership is happening May 31st at 652 Hilgard Avenue from 5-8 PM, and you are not going to want to miss “Discover Your Style With Depop and Detoure.”

Some may remember my article from December that covered a Detoure pop-up. I was able to sit down with the CEO and founder Meghan Russell and learn about Detoure’s origins, core values and success. I was also able to shop their pop-up and thrift some great finds including a name-brand dress that originally retailed for over $300 and was now selling for $60. For those of you who don’t know, Detoure is a thrift store that sources all its items from influencers’ closets that includes everything from their personal buys to their PR Box goodies. As a result, Detoure has a consistently trendy stock with mostly name-brand items, and many items are new with tags or have only been worn once! The best part is, all the items are 40-80% off, including what will be at Discover Your Style, where Detoure will be debuting their first Depop shop. Prices can be as low as $15, and the stock is size inclusive!

Meghan Russell, the founder of Detoure shares, “We are thrilled to bring Detoure, our influencer thrift platform to the students of UCLA to introduce them to a new and innovative thrifting experience! Students will be able to shop their inspiration directly from the closets of their favorite influencers and express their unique style through this super fun and interactive pop-up—complete with a style quiz and personal stylists to help students identify their individual style. We’re so honored to partner with Depop for this special event and can’t wait to share this experience with you.”

Depop is so excited to have Detoure join its app and join the community. Depop highly values community and creating bonds over fashion, no matter one’s style. This event is going to feature different aesthetics as attendees will have the opportunity to take a “style quiz” to learn what fits them best and then shop that certain aesthetic and similar ones around it. No matter if you like to dress grunge or in a hopeless romantic way, there’s a place for you here at Depop!

“We are so excited to be working with our talented brand ambassadors at UCLA to host the Explore Your Style with Depop event, powered by Detoure,” says a spokesperson for Depop. “Working with students, we are bringing to life Depop’s DNA IRL with live entertainment, a fit check photo station, food vendors, and of course the opportunity for attendees to discover and explore styles and trends including coastal cowgirl, model off duty, romantic coquette, Y2K grunge and more.”

And the spokesperson is correct in saying that this event will have multiple things to do! Come by yourself or make this a group outing with your girls to dance to some music, share your current fit or fits that you find, get cute keepsake polaroids and other freebies and munch on some super yummy churros! Even if you don’t plan to buy anything, come to just vibe and browse for inspiration for your summer wardrobe! Take a break from your Week 9 studies and join us for a little bit. You definitely deserve it, and we cannot wait to see you there and welcome you into our Depop x Detoure community!

RSVP to the event here (not required, walk ups are more than welcome!) Download Depop here.
