Don’t Procrastinate! 7 Tips To Help Put Finals In Your Rear View Mirror

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Well ladies, finals week is upon us. It’s the most miserable time of the year. You’re loaded up with papers and finals to study for, and you just want it to be over! We get it, it sucks. But the good news is, it will all be over soon– I promise. There’s only one thing standing between finals and winter break– you! So this quarter, don’t procrastinate. Here are a few tips to help get you put your finals behind you.

1. Don’t Freak Out

Oftentimes when you have a lot to do, your first instinct is to stress out and push your responsibilities to the side. DO NOT do this. Take a deep breath, you got this.

2. Prioritize

The first thing I do when I have a lot on my plate is make a to-do list, with my most important tasks on top. Actually seeing the stuff that I have to get done makes it a lot easier for me to start doing them.

3. Break Big Tasks Down

Have a big assignment to do? Break it down into smaller tasks. This will make you more willing to do them, and at least you will feel as though you have made progress, even if it’s one step at a time.

4. Start With The Hardest Task

I know you’re probably dreading that 10 page paper you have to write, but just imagine how much better you’ll feel when it’s done! Get it out of the way, so at least your smaller assignments will seem enjoyable and easy!

5. Take Mini Breaks

Many people get overly stressed during finals season because they don’t allow themselves the time to relax. What they may not realize, though, is that stressing out will only hurt you in the end. You can control how you allow stress to affect you, so crush it with little 15 minute intervals between tasks. Take a bath, do a facial, watch an episode of Friends. Relax!

6. Reward Yourself

Just wrote the first paragraph of your paper? Reward yourself with a chocolate or a trip to Starbucks! Give yourself an incentive for finishing every little task you have, and you’ll be more motivated to get it done.

7. Think About The Holiday’s

This may be distracting, but if anything, it will motivate you to want to get your finals done with! In just a week, you will be done with Fall quarter, and ready to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. You can and will get finals week over with, and once you do, it will feel amazing!

Happy Finals Week ladies!!!
