My Experience At The NCT 127 ‘2 Baddies’ Speedway Pop Up Event: A Fan’s Dream Come True

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

As a K-pop fan in LA, it feels like there is always some kind of event happening nearby. On October 7, I had the opportunity to attend a particularly special event for one of my favorite groups, NCT 127. Debuting in 2016 with the single “Fire Truck,” NCT 127 is currently one of the most popular K-pop groups. The group has become known for their experimental style, combining several genres together to create their own recognizable sound.

Recently, NCT 127 released their fourth album 2 Baddies, featuring a title track with the same name. The event I attended was called the “2 Baddies Speedway” and served to promote the recent album. Having attended their concert the night before (part of the Neo City: The Link Tour), the energy was still very high amongst fans, who are nicknamed “nctzens.” Though the event boasted several features, fans were most excited about the fact that the group would be present for a Q&A.

The event took place at the Petersen Automotive Museum, referencing the car-based theme of the 2 Baddies album. Given the event’s limited capacity, fans lined up hours in advance. According to the group’s twitter account, there were over 5000 fans in the line for the event, which had a capacity of 1000 people. As I looked out over the sea of people, the excitement was obvious. Many were decked out in items to represent their favorite group member and carried the group’s signature neon green lightstick

After getting our wristbands, we were taken up to the roof of the building where the event took place. We first passed through a row of photo backdrops, and I had to stop and take pictures. We then made our way to a tent where the staff was handing out a limited edition themed drink. The “2 Baddies Latte” was made of banana, oat milk and charcoal. Though tiny, it was actually pretty good!

While waiting for the group to enter, we all sang along to the NCT 127 songs being played, such as Highway to Heaven and Kick It . Once the group entered the stage, the excitement shot up and the cheers erupted.

The interview started with questions about the group’s newest music. Group member Mark took the microphone, saying that they had not seen their fans in such a long time, so they knew they needed to put out something strong. Johnny continued by saying that seeing the fans again “touched their hearts” and makes them want to keep improving. Johnny also teased new songs and an album repackage in the near future.

The interview then progressed to more lighthearted questions submitted by fans on Twitter. Taeyong discussed possible Halloween costumes, and Mark joked about the song he would choose to send into space (Time Lapse).

I am so glad that I was able to see NCT 127 during their time in LA. If you’re interested, I recommend checking out some of these popular songs. I can’t wait for their new music and the next time they visit the states!
