Meet Micaela Harris, 20, a second year and an English major here at UCLA. She’s from Vacaville, California, and is the youngest of three children in a family full of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. Micaela, however, is carving her own path with the hopes of going into publishing. “I thought about going into medicine but I hate hospitals,” she says with a laugh.
Her dream? “Moving to New York,” she says without hesitation. “Every time I leave I want to go back!”
Micaela loves books and music. Her most recent fave? 1Q84, by Haruki Murakami. “I read this one line and I literally stopped functioning.” She loves music (“more than anything!”) and is definitely the girl you want to ask for the lyrics to that song you love. “It’s kind of weird, but I have to look at the lyrics when I listen to a new song I like. I need to know what it’s about!”
Her dream job? To be in a band with just enough fame. As in, enough to be comfortable, but not so much to be recognized in her grocery store-me time. “Music is my heart and soul,” she says. “If only I could sing!”
For now, if publishing doesn’t work out, her backup plan is to open a coffee shop that also sells books and records. But we’re pretty sure she’ll be just fine.
In the meantime, you’ll probably find her watching “Lord of the Rings” (again) or eating one of her favorite foods: sushi, burgers, or anything Thai. Anything else she’d like people to know? “Not really,” she says after a moment. “People knowing stuff is kind of painful. That was already too much!”
