With the holidays right around the corner, it is clear that cuffing season has officially begun.
What is cuffing season? According to the very accurate and resourceful Urban Dictionary, cuffing season is defined as the time “During the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “Cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship”. AKA my absolute favorite time of the year!!!!! Just kidding, cuffing season sucks.
Year after year, I keep finding myself single AF with only my dog to cuddle with during the holidays. Now I’m not saying I don’t enjoy cuddling with my dog, but you know what I mean – I’m lonely OK? And I know I’m not the only one. We’ve all fallen prey to shedding a tear during those cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies and wishing we had a bae to watch them with. Now I’m all about the whole independent woman life and I know that being single has its perks, but right now during the holidays it kind of sucks.
If this is your first cuffing season being a single woman, be prepared to feel lonely AF. Nothing makes you feel more single than when you’re surrounded by couples holding hands LITERALLY EVERYWHERE you go. To feel even worse about being single, try going to some public shopping area, like The Grove, where you’ll hear Christmas love songs and see couples kissing everywhere! Fun stuff. Oh, and don’t let me forget those holiday parties where you were allowed a plus one but your plus one doesn’t seem to exist. Speaking of holiday parties, sitting around the Thanksgiving table is really great. Especially when your entire family starts interrogating you about your love life, or lack thereof. For the 100th time, yes Grandma I am still single. Why? IDK, is it really that awful to be single during the holidays? The answer is yes, yes it is.
One of my favorite parts of the holidays is the food. I absolutely love to bake, so I always take advantage of the extra time I have during break to do so. Although there are worse things than baking alone, it is always more fun to bake with friends. Though unfortunately, it’s hard to do so when all your friends are in relationships and are busy with their significant others. This whole being single thing is not good for my health either because, you know that cake I just made? I have nobody to share it with so I guess I’m going to be eating it all by myself. More for me!
In conclusion, being single during cuffing season sucks. But we’ve gotten through it before, and I promise we’ll get through it again. So until then, enjoy that extra cake and have fun making fun of gross couples with all your single friends. From one single girl to another, I wish you the best of luck in getting through the next 3 months. We got this!
