Your Guide To The Perfect Halloween Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

“Monster Mash” does not need to be played the WHOLE Halloween season!

Here lies the perfect playlist for any spooky activities. Make those last-minute trips to Spirit Halloween before the bunny ears and Pitbull costumes go out of stock! Whether you are going out or staying in, here are some tunes to get you into the seasonal mood:

“Bella Donna,” by Stevie Nicks

Honestly, any song from Stevie Nicks’s album Bella Donna works for Halloween. As the leader of a coven, Nick’s witchy aura is the perfect Halloween ambiance setter.

“Calling All the Monsters,” by China Anne McClain

Who doesn’t miss a good Disney Channel Original throwback? Allow yourself to get teleported into after school Disney Channel nostalgia. McClain’s catchy and upbeat voice will get the monster mash started.

“I Put A Spell On You,” by Annie Lennox

Differing from Bette Midler’s iconic “I Put A Spell On You” in Hocus Pocus, Lennox delivers a more sultry and sassy version of this Halloween strip tease.

“Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But…,” by Arctic Monkeys

Like the common cold, Arctic Monkey fever returns every time the leaves change color. Dark and broody, Arctic Monkeys bring the rock into Halloween.

“Thriller / Heads Will Roll,” by The Glee Cast

Okay hear me out; Glee had its cringe moments, but this mashup is actually really good. Football players coming together to flash mob? Who could ask for more relatable high school content?

“Maneater,” by Nelly Furtado

Furtado delivers the ultimate Halloween strut song. Even if you are staying in the comforts of your own home, “Maneater” brings Y2K into the Halloween season.

“Halloween,” by Phoebe Bridgers

Sad girl Halloween is just as valid as sexy girl Halloween. There will be no judgement here from this decision.

“These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” by Nancy Sinatra

Take those cowboy boots you have somehow engineered into a costume and walk all over your town. Nancy Sinatra’s iconic 60s look is also a knock out Halloween costume.

“Somebody’s Watching Me,” by Rockwell

“Somebody’s Watching Me” is TikTok’s seasonal revival song. Rockwell brings mystical 80s synthesizers that provide the perfect sound bite for your TikTok costume reveal.

“Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr.

“Ghostbusters” is a must-play for any social gathering. It’s also an excuse to watch one of the best films to come out of the 80s.

While we can not completely throw pandemic precautions to the wind, Covid-19 restrictions are loosening for the vaccinated and Halloween 2022 brings a beautiful returned sense of normalcy. Whatever your Halloween plans may be, don’t forget (1) your mask and (2) your inherited witch ancestry.
