What You NEED To Listen To This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Didn’t get to make it to Coachella this year? Have no fear, music can still reach you here.

Music has always been paramount in my life. At whatever age, I remember having multitudes of different types of music flowing all around me. From being a young kid at age six— my dad being a classic rock enthusiast— with the Eagles and Styx playing throughout car rides, and to now, listening to the Lumineers to keep me afloat during hard times or to enjoy good times, music is always there. Although music tastes often shift, it still allows for an expression of creativity and an outlet to feel a range of emotions.

The amount of music coming out in the upcoming months is beyond exciting, almost too good to be true. There are so many different genres that we will get to hear from. Here are a few albums to listen to now and to look forward to in the future.

1. Kendrick Lamar DAMN.

I, personally, cannot seem to get over this album and NPR puts it perfectly as: “this is King Kendrick in Book of Lamentations mode, exhausted and exasperated, stacking intricate rhymes in a way that conveys both lyrical mastery and mounting anxiety.” This album seems to have come out at the perfect time.

2. Mac Demarco This Old Dog

3. Lana Del Rey Lust for Life

4. Lorde

5. Cold War Kids LA Divine

Although some of these bands have already come out with their albums, such as Kendrick Lamar and Cold War Kids, there is also Lorde, Lana Del Rey, and more of Mac Demarco to come!

When will there be a biography that doesn't mention a love for coffee? Not here and not today.
