3 Questions to Ask Yourself While Dating

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

This is more of an introspective take on dating. These questions are about how you see yourself, which is much more important than how someone else sees you. We hope that these question will help you to have a discussion with yourself about your wants and needs. When you have that discussion, we hope it’s an enlightening conversation and one that uplifts you!

1.      What are you most proud of?

The thing that you are proudest of shows what you value the most.  This question is to help you understand your values and to express your values to the person you’re dating.

2.      What do you do for yourself?

After you’ve finished all your homework, you got off of work and went to all your classes for the day, what happens next? This question is to help you explore your hobbies and what you love to do when you have accomplished all your responsibilities. Focus on what you love to do and share that with the person you are dating.

3.      Does this person cloud your judgment?

Can you think clearly around this person that you are dating? Can you be yourself when you are with this person? Explore this question to see if the person you are dating fits you.

Hi, I'm Briahna and I'm a fourth year at UCSB; majoring in anthropology. I'll start with a quote "it's never been true, not anywhere at any time, that the value of a soul, of a human spirit, is dependent on a number on a scale"- Geneen Roth. Sometimes in this big wide world I do feel small but I am reminded by this quote that I am much more than anything that can be measured by a scale, a grade point average or society standards of what a woman should be. My value is dependent by the standards I set for myself.
Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
