How to Be a Good Succulent Owner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Nurturing and taking care of a plant has been proven to increase your mood and add positivity to your life. Succulents are the best plant to own for any college student as they require the least work and care. You won’t have to worry about killing your plant if you forget to water it or feed it fertilizer. Succulents are also really aesthetically pleasing and many ‘hip’ cafe’s and restaurants are decorated with them. What could be better than an aesthetically pleasing but easy to look after plant? Watching it grow and bloom will brighten your mood soĀ fill your room with cute succulents for some desert vibes!

1. Go to your local supermarket such as Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods or even Kmart to choose your new plant to take home! You can start off by owning a smaller succulent or you could even buy a larger one with different types of cacti if you are feeling confident! Succulents are relatively inexpensive and you can pruchase a smaller one for around $3-$7 or a larger one for $10 or more.

2. Once you’ve brought your succulent home, choose a space in your house that gets indirect sunlight and create a space for your succulent. Placing the succulent in indirect sunlight will give it the exposure it needs for light without it being too much.Ā

3. Water your succulent 1-2 times a week and watch in amazement as it blooms and grows with very little care.

Owning a succulent requires very little effort but you will defeinitley see the benefits as your room will become a little more aesthetically pleasing and your life will become more positive.
