Working and going to college is a balance. However, whether it’s a part-time or full-time job, it can be tough to balance both commitments. And like all other commitments that you make as a student, working and being a full-time student can lead to lower grades, low-quality of work, or even just crazy amounts of stress. That being said, not all of us have the option to not work therefore here are a few pros as to why working and being a fulltime student can end up being valuable for you in the long run!
1. It helps you get organized. If you are a procrastinator like I am, getting a job forces you to curb that habit and prioritize your time more wisely.
2. Financial education is another reason why working in your early years can be beneficial. As you’re earning money and subsequently spending it, you end up becoming more responsible in managing your expenses. That’s a lesson that will carry a lot of weight in your future.
3. It builds your work ethic as well as your resume. It is no myth that job markets favor those with experience over education. Even if you’re just a cashier for a fro-yo stand, that can be far more valuable than someone who has never worked a day in his or her life.
4. It builds a network. Networking and gaining references are the best ways for you to establish contacts with people you would not have met otherwise. Whether it is just making some friends within your circle of coworkers or getting in contact with an adult employer, networking is always a good idea.
5. And finally, the best for last, the mullah! The income is always handy, especially for us broke-ass college students.
