It’s hard to disagree with the many factors that make UCSB an uniquely amazing and beautiful university.
There’s the location (we can’t compain about being situated directly on the beach of the central coast of California), the people (we bask in glory due to being named one of the hottest campuses in the country), and the academics (not only do we know how to have a good time, but we’re constantly rated as one of the best schools in California, in the top 10 best public schools in the nation, and as one of the top research institutes in the world).
Adding to the brag-worthy list of why UCSB is just
so great—we were named the nation’s top surf college by Surfer Magazine.
In it’s feature, the “Top 10 Surf Colleges,” the
prestigious publication looked over university pamphlets, surf reports, and statistics to find the best surf friendly schools in the United States—and UC Santa Barbara came out on top! Although this is not surprising, with the seemingly summer days all year long and the student housing on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific, it’s nice to have national recognition by such a highly-received magazine.
As the overall winner, the publication described UCSB’s surf environment, the school’s education, the town of IV, campus, student lifestyle, demographics, and more. We also were excited to find out that the former editor of the magazine, Steve Hawk, is a Gaucho alumni. According to Hawk on behalf of Surfer Magazine‘s website, “One of the best waves in the area is called Campus Point. That’s pretty much all you need to know.” We agree.
A common phrase voiced by students in Isla Vista is “My life, your dream”—or shall I say, #mylifeyourdream. Although we feel a bit fratastic promoting this slogan, we think it’s appropriate in light of this recent award.
