Why You Should Celebrate Your Tiny Achievements

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

When you’re in college, you may often feel like you’re in a race against the clock trying to get as much done as you can during your years here. You have to prove to graduate schools and future employers that you’re a force to be reckon with; you’re as competitive as it gets. Whether you hold a part-time job, an internship, or are a student-athlete, having all these extra responsibilities on top of your school work can be draining. Sure, you may love all you do and being involved. But that doesn’t mean it’s not stressful.

There’s this unspoken idea floating around in our heads that no matter what or how much we’re doing, we have to be doing more. You need to study more. You need to volunteer more. You need to work more. More, more more. If you don’t do enough, then future schools and employers are going to think that you’re not enough.

But you are.

And everything you do while in college, no matter how small, deserves to be acknowledged.

With all the craziness in college, we too often forget to take a breather. We panic over the things we’re not doing and ignore the things we are. Think about how hard it is to get into a good four-year university in the first place. You’re here! Think about how difficult it was to get out of bed this morning for your 8 AM. You got yourself to class. Think about how much tension you’ve been carrying inside yourself all day. You’ve cried it all out. And you’re doing okay.

You’re doing more than okay, in fact. You’re doing outstanding. You’re pushing yourself and you’re accomplishing a lot. It may be hard, but you’re doing it.

Go you.
