Too often we hear people shouting that they want change, expressing their disgust at decisions made within office, and pouting that they have no voice. Voting is our opportunity as citizens to create the change we want to see within our government. Everything that is decided within office, whether it be your city council or this upcoming midterm election, has a direct reflection on us personally and how our country is viewed around the world. The voting process takes about two minutes, but the outcome can affect our lifetime.

On the sixth of November, we will be voting in the midterm elections. In California we will be voting for both Senate, and House of Representative candidates. The Senate represents each state, while the House of Representatives passes laws that affect us directly. If you cannot make it to the polls, you can also send in an absentee ballot. An absentee ballot comes in the mail two weeks prior to election day.
Before you vote, make sure you are informed! Know that you do not have to choose a candidate within your party if you feel like they are not representative of you as a person and your beliefs. Read about their propositions and who their campaigns are funded by. Forming your own opinion is what matters here.
This is your chance as a citizen to be heard. Although elections are intimidating, we need to start putting people in office that share our own values. Regardless of your political views, the point of a democracy is for everyone to have a voice, so don’t let anyone silence yours. With that being said, make sure you sign up and vote for the midterm election on November 6, 2018!
