Though we may still be in denial summer has ended, we should accept that all good things must come to an end. But being back at UCSD doesn’t have to mean having summer-ending woes, rather here at Her Campus UCSD, we’re so excited to be back at school and here’s why you should be too:
1.) Summer doesn’t really ever end in San Diego
It’s the end of September and it’s still perfect beach weather! There’s never a bad day to go relax, swim, surf, or even study at the beach, and with the waves so close to our campus, summer never has to end.
2.) New opportunities to get involved
A new year brings new opportunities to get more involved in student life on campus! In the first few weeks of school, we’ve seen a lot of student organizations tabling out on Library Walk or advertisements written on lecture hall chalkboards. Even if you were involved in certain orgs last year, it’s never too late to try something different. You never know, you might discover that you have a passion for a hidden talent or that you love serving your local community! So take this opportunity to find out what these orgs are all about and see what sparks your interest!
3.) New people to meet
There’s 6,000 new people on our campus, so there’s plenty of opportunities to meet new people and potentially make your new best friend. Even if you’ve made a solid group of friends in the past years, it never hurts to make a new connection, see a familiar face around campus, or make another close friend!
4.) Time to explore SoCal
There’s a reason San Diego is known as America’s Finest City. There are so many places to explore in the city that I’m sure you didn’t get to see in past years. If you’ve hit the major tourist-y places like Mission Beach, Balboa Park, and Gaslamp, try hitting up some of the more local places like hole-in-the-wall restaurants, new museums (like the Museum of Man which is free on Tuesdays for students), or go to an alternative concert. And if you somehow manage to get bored in San Diego, Orange Country and L.A. are just a couple of hours away with attractions like Disneyland and Magic Mountain to give you all the fun you could want.
5.) A chance to excel academically and learn a lot!
While college is loads of fun, especially in San Diego, we came to UCSD to be studious, to learn, and to be successful. A new year is a great opportunity to get organized and make goals for academic success. A new schedule of classes is a great opportunity to learn something new, renew your interest in what you’re studying, or discover another topic of interest.
Though it’s going to be hard to have late night study sessions in Geisel again, there are many positives of being back at UCSD! Have an amazing first week of school, collegiettes!
