Especially for those of us who didn’t get to go to Coachella, Sun God is the time for us to strut out festival wear and show that we, too, have the style. Hopefully you’ve registered for your wristband, and here are some style tips to get you through the day!
1. Comfy feet! Like any festival, you’ll spend a lot of your time on your feet. Yes, there will be the occassional downtime when you will plop down on the grass and just take a rest, but other times, you’ll be standing, jumping, dancing, or maybe even running around a bit. Wear comfy, flat shoes like sandals, boots, or sneakers, so you can stay on your feet all day. We recommend closed-toed shoes because we’ve all experienced that moment when someone accidentally stomps onto your unsuspecting toes, and we don’t want that pain to ruin the day or night!
2. Layer, layer, layer! For anyone who’s witnessed La Jolla’s uncertain weather recently, you’ll know that it can go from blazing hot to windy cold in a matter of hours. The night time will certainly be chilly on your way home, as well. However, it can be hot while out dancing at the stages, so you don’t want to wear or carry something heavy! Layer your outfit with a flannel, kimono or light cardigan that you can tie around your waist when it’s hot. Cover your shoulders when it’s sunny and pull you light sweater on when it starts getting chilly- perfection!
3. BYOS (Bring Your Own Shade). If it’s sunny in the afternoon, you definitely won’t want to be busy covering up your eyes and not seeing the artists on stage. Bring a hat and/or some sunglasses so you can have hands-free shade while the sun is out. Pick a trendy shape that will boost your style points, as well!
4. Pack it! Whether it’s a fanny pack, wristlet, or a small cell phone pouch, you should definitely have a place to store all your essentials – Chapstick, cash, keys, and phone. Pockets can be a little risky, so if you have a small bag that you can keep on your person and close to your body at all times, you can be sure you won’t lose your things while you have a good time!
5. Hydration is the word! It sounds a little counterintuitive to have a reusable water bottle because it probably means you’ll have to hold it all day. But if you bring an empty plastic water bottle, you can refill it for free all day. You’ll definitely want to be hydrated, whether it’s to cool down and rehydrate or to stay safe (because responsible drinking is key!). Water cups are available inside the festival, but they cost $1. Our tip? Get a bottle with a strap or some type of easy-grab handle, and you can clip it to your belt loop or bag for hands-free fun.
