It can be hard to take advantage of living in beautiful La Jolla while being stuck beneath artificial lights studying all day. Obviously, Geisel Library is a great location to study, but here are some alternative places to mix it up:
Pinpoint Cafe:Â
Located at UCSD Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Pinpoint Cafe is arguably the most scenic place to study on campus with an ocean view that overlooks Scripps pier. I love coming here when the weather is warm so that I can watch the waves while doing homework. The coffee is good and their açaĂ bowls and avocado toast are to die for.Â
M.O.M.’s Cafe in Muir College:Â
This place has an incredible atmosphere. They have great signature coffees such as the Polar Bear and always have fun specialties like their zodiac drinks that change with each sign’s season. You can also find cute merch and art for sale here. There’s plenty of comfy seating inside as well as an outdoor patio for some fresh air.Â
Glider Lounge:
Located just above TEC Cafe and Ridgewalk Social, the Glider Lounge overlooks the RIMAC field and is a great place to get some work done, especially since it stays open relatively late.Â
Art of Espresso:
This little coffee stand has by far the best coffee on campus. It’s right next to the Mandeville Auditorium and Old Student Center and has plenty of outdoor seating.
Fifth floor patio in RWAC:
The fifth floor of the Ridge Walk Academic Complex in Sixth College has an outdoor patio with a great view of campus as well as plenty of tables for studying and enjoying the sun.Â
Gliderport:
I’m sure you’ve gone to Gliderport to sit on the grass or walk down to Blacks, but there are also tables where you can get some work done with an incredible view of La Jolla. I love coming here to read around sunset.Â
The hammocks:Â
You can find hammocks across the campus including at Price Center, the Old Student Center, and Warren College. The hammocks are definitely the most comfortable places to read a book or watch a lecture; however, if it’s sunny enough you may accidentally fall asleep.Â
