Meet Taylor West, a first year collegiate from Earl Warren College majoring in Bioengineering with a heart for music. When she’s not juggling intensive classes or leading worship at her home church, she’s singing with the Daughters of Triton acapella group. With barely one and a half quarters into her college experience, Taylor has already performed for the ICCA and is actively pursuing her passion in music. Read on to learn more about her favorite moments, musical influences and background!
Q: What sparked your interest in music and how long have you been actively pursuing this interest?
A: I’ve been singing since I’ve had the ability to talk! At a young age I loved singing and musical theater and have participated in about twenty productions. In high school, I sung in choir, took voice lessons and even had a lead role in “Legally Blonde.”
Q: You recently performed for the ICCA this past weekend, was it nerve-wracking to sing at such a prestigious competition?
A: With a background in musical theater, I’m not usually nervous, but with Daughters of Triton, it’s a completely different atmosphere! There’s a different dynamic on stage, but is only scary if you let it scare you!
Q: Besides singing, do you have any other musical talents?
A: I can actually play the piano and ukulele!
Q: Do you have any music icons that have influenced your singing career?
A: I’m definitely a country girl at heart through and through, so I find a lot of inspiration from artists like Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill.
Q: What have been your favorite moments since joining Daughters of Triton?
A: Performing is so much fun, but I really love the moments with this group behind the stage. When we first get a song to practice, there’s a unity and compassion that we all share-it’s amazing to have a bond through music with these girls.
