Plaid is one of those patterns that can go with almost anything. Lucky for us it made a huge comeback this season, just in time for winter. Most of us stay warm by layering here in Gainesville, and plaid is the perfect layer. Itâs a fashion staple because you can mix it with another pattern and not look like a clown. You donât even need to own multiple plaid tops because one can be worn so many different ways. No one will notice that youâve worn the same plaid button-down three days in a row if you just switch up the way you wear it, and Her Campus UFL is here to give you a few suggestions for how to do so:
1. Underneath a sweater or jacket This outfit choice is ideal for the days when the temperature is downright bone-chilling. Pair your flannel top with a solid sweater or jacket, and youâre good to go. Itâs even cuter when the collar, sleeves, and bottom of the shirt are peeking out from underneath your sweater. Add layers by putting a tank top underneath as your base layer and throwing a big coat on top as the final touch.
2. Around the waist For the effortlessly cool â90s look, I give you the plaid button-down wrapped around the waist. This look is so easy to pull off. It works with a dress, shorts, or pants. If you get cold, you can easily put on the button-down — and presto, an extra layer! This is also great for when the days start to heat up. If you leave your house wearing the top, just wrap it around your waist when you get hot.
3. Simple Button-Down The more traditional look never fails. Pair your plaid top with ripped jeans, and youâve just nailed a classically laid-back outfit for the day. If youâre shooting for an edgier look, try wearing it with black jeans and a graphic T-shirt underneath.
A plaid button-down is a great basic because you can wear it with just about anything. You can switch out your sweaters or bottoms, and no one would ever realize that you only own one plaid top. Since laundry is a rarity in college â unless weâre going home for the weekend, that is â these tips are useful for those of us thrifty collegiettesâą who would rather spend our money on the more important things in life⊠like Starbucks.
