Whether you and your roommate were randomly matched or you’ve been friends for years, your roommate has taken the position of at least one of these jobs. When you signed your roommate contract, you probably didn’t expect your roommie to take on the role of your personal stylist or your micromanager — but when you live with another person in a cramped cinderblock palace, you’ll find that the most unexpected moments and situations turn into the best bonding experiences.Â
Here are the “jobs” that your roommate is bound to take on throughout the year.
1. Chef
When your roommate is baking cookies, somehow her batch will always come out better than yours. She is always there to help you make pasta or make the executive decision to order out.
2. Accountant
When it’s late at night, you’re drunk and you think you need to buy that tapestry that will complete the room, your roommate is always there to remind you it might not be the best financial investment.
3. Photographer
Somehow your roommate knows your best angles matched with the best lighting. She knows to take more than one, and she knows that you prefer portrait over landscape. She is always there to figure out the best photos for Instagram. Little do your followers know that all of your captions are actually from your roommate’s clever mind.Â
4. Publicist
Your roommate is always there to edit and spellcheck all of your Facebook and Instagram posts. (And, yes — she’ll be the first “like” and comment on your pic.)Â
5. Stylist
You can’t leave the house without your roommate checking to make sure your top is not see-through, your shoes match your outfit, and if your dress is too short or not. She will always help you make the final call if what you’re wearing is acceptable to leave the house in. Her closet also may end becoming yours, TBH.
You may have your mini-feuds, and you may or may not always be BFFs — but your roommate is your roommate (and your stylist, accountant, Instagram caption-creator, etc.), and in the end, you have a special bond that not many people can understand.Â
