“Art is not a thing, it is a way.” ~Elbert Hubbard
As busy collegiettes, we often concern ourselves with reaching our academic and career goals, keeping up with the latest styles, being healthy, and maintaining our relationships and social lives. However, we never really take the time to recognize the beauty of the things right in front of our faces. Although we should by no means focus less on the relevant aspects of our lives, we should focus a little more on what makes our lives forever rich: art.
Can you imagine a world without art? It’s such a large part of our everyday lives that you may not even stop to think about it, but it’s everywhere. The mug you’re sipping on? Art. The desk you’re sitting at? Art. The building you’re currently in? Art. Every one of these things was designed by an imagination and crafted by a pair of hands. Without art, we wouldn’t have clothes to wear, a house to live in or cartoons to watch (how sad would that be for your childhood?). Art is more than just a pretty picture; it is a way of life.
Each of us is born an inherent artist. Think about it; how often did you color in coloring books, build castles out of blocks or draw on the walls when you were little? Some of us choose to continue this path when we’re older, and some of us don’t. But for those who chose to become an artist or designer, art is often a means of expression. For the rest, art is something to be appreciated, and that’s what why I’m here. I think everyone should realize the beauty or importance of art, and I hope that Art Notes will encourage you to look at art in a different way.
What is art to you?
