A few weeks ago, I found the experience of reading described perfectly by an English playwright, Alan Bennett: “The best moments in reading are when you come across something — a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things, which you had thought special and particular to you, and now, here it is, set down by someone else. A person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.”
Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be. Reading allows you to take a break from reality, which is important for a group of women who are constantly immersed in their specific studies. It has also been proven that those who read have better vocabularies and analysis skills, as well as the capacity to memorize more effectively and efficiently.
Whether you are a bookworm yourself or would like to start reading more, my blog will be here to encourage and explore the enjoyable side of reading. Think of it as Oprah’s very own book club here at the University of Florida!
This semester, I’m excited to start a new way of blogging and reviewing books. Each week, I will review a book on The Bookworm Belle Fall 2013 Book List. Follow along with me, or choose which books you’re interested in along the way! I’ve chosen a wide array of books ranging from a southern non-fiction mystery to a shipwreck classic to an adolescent literature sensation, so you’re sure to find something that interests you.
