In the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel The Hobbit hitting the big screen, I decided to revisit the book after seeing the film version. I was really impressed by the film, and I cannot wait for the rest of The Hobbit movies to debut, but re-reading the book did help tie me over for a little bit! If you’re craving an adventure story, I highly suggest you read this book. It’s even a great re-read for bookworms who love to realize any new details they may have missed during their first visit.
Now that The Hobbit is available on DVD, I highly recommend you purchase both the DVD and the book. There’s no better way to relax between midterms and finals than by sitting down with a good book or movie on a quiet night!
From the back cover of The Hobbit:
“J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic prelude to his Lord of the Rings trilogy
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.
Written for J.R.R. Tolkien’s own children, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies worldwide and established itself as a modern classic.”
I hope you find a sense of adventure by enjoying The Hobbit for the first time or revisiting it. Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book: “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”
