When you think about winter fashion, thick pants and long sleeves may come to mind, but what if you could rock your summer dresses despite the chilly weather? The secret to making your wardrobe wearable year-round is layering! By piling warmer pieces on top of dresses or tank tops, you can carry your summer staples into the colder months. Caitlin Barreto was the queen of layers on her way to the Marston Science Library. Doubling up on her layers with a flannel and an army jacket was an unexpected way to stay warm and still up her style game. She also paired lace-up boots with knee-high socks! Keep reading to learn where she found her outfit.
Name: Caitlin Barreto
Age: 20
Year: sophomore
Major(s): anthropology and sociology
Her Campus: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Caitlin Barreto: “My jacket is a military-style anorak. It’s from JCPenney. My flannel is plaid and navy blue, red and white. That’s from Forever 21. My dress is gray with black stripes, and it’s from Macy’s. My necklaces are all from Forever 21. My shoes are from Aéropostale, and my socks were a gift from my mom.”
HC: Where do you find style inspiration?
CB: “Pinterest and a lot of Instagram pictures are where I find a lot of inspiration. I also find inspiration from my friends. I try to dress to my body. I like to make my body look good instead of following trends.”
HC: Who are your favorite style icons?
CB: “I really like Taylor Swift’s style! I think that she is very elegant and classy, but she also likes to mix it up and wear more edgy things. I think Alexa Chung has a really nice style, too.”
HC: If you could take over the closet of a celebrity, whose would you choose?
CB: “That’s a hard question! I think I would take Selena Gomez’s closet. She can mix it up with so many different things!”
HC: If you were to go shopping right now, what would you be looking to buy?
CB: “I think I would be looking to buy a sweater dress or something appropriate for the time. Probably something to wear for the holidays!”
