Today’s top campus style pick is brought to you courtesy of one of the great fashion capitals of the world, London! The natural host to street style equally posh and avant-garde, London has one more claim on our campus collegiate’s heart: Topshop.
Keep reading to see what else our own UF globetrotter, Ashley Suarez, has to say about London fashion, as well as her own take on controversial trends (double denim: yea or nay?) and the style influencers of today (Kendall Jenner, obviously).
Name: Ashley Suarez
Age: 20
Year: Junior
Major: English and history
Her Campus: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Ashley Suarez: “I’m wearing a pair of Adidas Superstar shoes, along with a Topshop shirt, jeans and jacket. The bralette is from Victoria’s Secret.”
HC: Who are your style icons?
AS: “I actually really like Beyonce because she plays with texture and color a lot, but Kendall Jenner too—I feel her style’s a good mix between being edgy and classy. That’s what I go for as well, depending on the day.”
HC: What would you describe your style as?
AS: “I wear a lot of vintage-inspired stuff without actually being all the way vintage-y. It’s like a mix between vintage and contemporary styles. I do definitely mix with edgy and more risky fashion than safe.”
HC: What are your fashion stores to shop at?
AS: “Topshop! I lived in London for six months, so Topshop was a big part of my style, especially now. It’s a lot of why I shop online still. Other than that, I’m also really into Zara, which kind of plays into me not going as edgy but clean-cut.”
HC: How would you say London fashion is different from here in Gainesville?
AS: “It’s very edgy, and it’s edgy without trying too hard. For example, I had a really cool pair of chunky black boots I’d wear all the time over there, and I feel if I wore that here in Gainesville, people would be like, ‘Why are you wearing those boots?’. London, despite also being posh and clean-cut, is way more friendly to edgy street style.”
HC: What’s your favorite wardrobe piece at the moment?
AS: “These jeans, actually! I wear them all the time. They’re so comfortable, especially paired with my Adidas. These two, and my jean jacket, are my go-to pieces.”
HC: Okay, last question of the day! What’s your style advice for Gator gals reading this?
AS: “Don’t be afraid to try new things. For example, I hated double denim because of the whole Justin Timberlake at the VMA’s cowboy look, but now I love the trend. So, play with what you think is cool and what you feel comfortable in. Also, don’t forget to mix in your interests and take fashion risks!”
