The Crafty Gator: Decorative Bottles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Looking for a fun, easy DIY project to get your mind off the stress of classes? Well, you’ve come to the right place because this week’s home décor DIY is perfect for you! Does your room need a makeover, or is the feng shui a little off? That all can be fixed when you take empty wine bottles and transform them into a modern (yet cheap) decoration for the home!

Supplies:

Obtain three empty wine bottles of different shapes and sizes. The more interesting the shapes, the better. Next, select an accent color or two of spray paint that will coordinate well with your house/apartment/room. I went with the classy and stylish matte black and white.

The idea is that the three bottles together will form some kind of inspiration when put together. Choose a phrase or three individual words that mean something to you to make it more special and meaningful. This is your inspiration after all! I chose faith, hope, and love because I love the bible verse from 1 Corinthians (13:13) that states: “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Use a hot glue gun to write the words or phrase you chose on the side of the bottle in cursive, and wait for it to dry. I recommend practicing writing with hot glue on a piece of paper before beginning on the bottle.

Now, you can finally spray paint over the whole bottle in the accent colors you chose previously. I painted the two outside bottles (faith and love) black, so the middle bottle (hope) would offset the others in white. I also placed the words at different levels on the bottles to create an asymmetric look. This project has so many variations that you could switch up to make it personal for you.

Happy Crafting!

XOXO,
The Crafty Gator
