Well, it seems like everyone is getting engaged, and by that I mean two celebrities. Still, it’s a mostly happy week in entertainment. Besides the romance, we have a birth, an epic new movie trailer and new movie, and T.V. show news. All in all, just enough to keep you distracted from homework. That’s all you really need, right?
1. Kaley Cuoco is engaged to a tennis pro. Best known for her role on The Big Bang Theory as the cute neighbor across the hall, Kaley Cuoco is engaged to former Gator Ryan Sweeting! The two have only been dating for three months (yikes!). According to Cuoco, he proposed by faking an argument and when she was convinced he was really mad at her, he whipped out the ring. Sigh, how sweet.
2. A&E has canceled Hoarders. Wow, A&E is just on a roll when it comes to canceling shows. This show has spent six seasons exposing the serious psychological condition hoarding. The few times I watched the show I felt like I was watching a car accident; I wanted to look away, but couldn’t bring myself to tear my eyes off the screen. Y’all are just going to have to get your fix of strange people elsewhere — I recommend MTV.
3. The trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is out. I am a proud fan of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I loved the first Hobbit movie and absolutely can’t wait for the second one. The trailer is two minutes and 29 seconds of gloriousness. It’s intense… There are great accents; it looks like Legolas has a romantic interest; and, of course, the really cool dragon finally makes his appearance. Go watch it. Go watch it now.
4. Twilight star Jackson Rathbone married his baby mama. Known for playing the mysterious Jasper in the Twilight series, Rathbone married his girlfriend, who also happens to be a burlesque dancer, and mother of his 15-month-old child. The two met while Rathbone was touring with his band 100 Monkeys.
5. The Simpsons lovers be warned: someone is going to die. Executive producer Al Jean has revealed that a regular character will be killed off this season. The only clue Jean would give is that actor who voices the character won an Emmy for doing so. Jean went on to hint that the season finale will be a crossover with Futurama. I don’t watch The Simpsons, but I definitely would tune in for a little more Futurama wackiness.
6. Disney is making a new movie… about Cruella de Vil. Maybe you saw the craziest lady in Disney in the 1961 animated version of 101 Dalmations (yes, it is in fact a 52-year-old movie) or the live-action 1996 version with Glenn Close as the infamous fur-obsessed villain. Either way, chances are good she seriously freaked you out and made you go running to hold your pet close. At least, that’s what I always did. Although not much has been revealed, Disney has confirmed that a live-action movie will be made about this evil woman; they have a screenwriter and producer already. I think I’ve had enough crazy-lady-puppy-hunting in my lifetime.
7. Emmy-winner Alec Baldwin is going to have his own talk show on MSNBC. It will premiere tonight at 10 p.m. Up Late with Alec Baldwin will feature Baldwin interviewing celebrities and most likely cracking jokes and sharing his opinions. Personally, I like Baldwin. He has said some pretty iffy things, but I still find him really funny in his movies. Everyone has an opinion on him one way or another, but from what I’ve read, his show is expected to do well.
8. Did you know the movie Anchorman has its own museum exhibit? ‘Tis true. The exhibit will be at Newseum in Washington D.C. in November. Designed to educate museum-goers about the news and media industry during the ‘70s, it will feature key pieces from the movie such as the burgundy suit, vanity plate, flute, and mustache brush. The exhibit is supposed to be both educational and entertaining. If more museums made a connection between history and movies based on historical events, they might get a lot more visitors.
9. Sandra Bullock shoots down a sequel to The Heat. Thank goodness someone finally realizes that not everything needs a sequel! Don’t get me wrong; I loved The Heat, but it does not need a sequel. While at the premiere of her new movie Gravity, Bullock agreed saying she’s done sequels before, and they’re just bad. Supposedly the screenwriter for the movie has already written a first draft for a sequel. Please no… Just no. The movie was good, why do we have to keep the cash cow alive?
10. Heather Morris of Glee had a baby. Morris gave birth to a baby boy named Elijah. This is her first baby with high school sweetheart Taylor Hubbell. I love that they’ve known each other since high school, how sweet is that?
