For the most part, the millennial generation can be deemed rather nostalgic. We tend to reminisce on memories of Lisa Frank notebooks, Webkinz and the golden era of Disney rather often. That made me get to thinking — what would the character of Lizzie McGuire do if they attended UF? Well, this is my educated guess, and I’d say it’s pretty darn accurate.Â
Lizzie McGuireIt’d take Lizzie a little bit of time to adjust to being away from her family (even Matt!) but once she did, she’d be very happy. Lizzie would be secretary of the Broward Area Council and become involved in the Inter-Residence Hall Association. After realizing how much time she spent internally reflecting, she’d create a blog with all her day-to-day thoughts as a college girl. Inspired by her time in Rome, she’d study abroad and then become a Study Abroad Peer Advisor to encourage fellow Gators to embark on a similar journey during college. In her free time, she’d hang out at the Hub with Gordo and Miranda.
David “Gordo” GordonThere was never any question whether or not Gordo would get into UF, nor was there any question he’d be in the Honors College. He’d live in Hume Hall and do his homework in the common area with his floor mates. Gordo’s major would be Film and Media Studies, with hopes of following his dream to be a film director. In spite of all the years that passed, he’d still have a crush on Lizzie and hope to ask her out before the end of college.
Miranda SanchezMusic is Miranda’s true calling. She’d pursue a musical degree of some sort (she’s still trying to figure out exactly what) and be a part of No Southern Accent, the a cappella group. Miranda would spend time downtown finding cool new places to get coffee, taking pictures in front of artsy murals and checking out local art galleries.
Kate SandersKate would take part in recruitment and join a sorority during her freshman year. She would live in Social 28 apartments, where her living space would be so lavishly decorated that you’d question if it was done by an interior designer. She’d get involved in student government or apply to be a part of Gator Growl staff. Kate would be extremely involved on campus and would be frequently passing out fliers on Turlington Plaza to encourage others to do the same.
Ethan CraftAlthough his friends might wonder how on earth it was even possible, Ethan would somehow get into UF. He’d be the guy on the third floor of Rawlings Hall that leaves his door propped open and says hello to everyone. You’d probably have to dodge him on the sidewalk since he would, of course, skateboard to class. Ethan would be a Family, Youth and Community Sciences major due to his friendly nature and interest in people. He’d spend most of his time hanging out with friends at the Broward area skatepark or lounging in the Plaza of the Americas.
Making this list was a little too fun. As much as I wish these characters actually went to UF, I guess I’ll have to settle for rewatching The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
