New Year, New Trend: A Look to Keep Your Eye on in 2013

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

When 2012 was coming to a close, Kelly Osbourne and George Kotsiopoulos hosted a special on E! highlighting 2013’s must-see trends. I don’t know about you, but I’m big on keeping up with trends, so I tuned in. If you missed the memo, don’t worry – I’ll give you the scoop.

Here is one of the stand-out trends that Kelly and George think will run rampant this year. But here’s what real college girls think of it:

Bold Black and White

Black and white are bold but elegant colors, and the best part is no matter how you wear it, you can’t go wrong! You can go sweet and classic in a look like Taylor Swift’s, or you can rock a super trendy black and white print. According to E!, this trend was seen on the spring runways at shows for Marc Jacobs’, Michael Kors’, and Moschino’s upcoming lines.

Teressa Gugino, a UF psychology junior said, “I personally like black and white. I’ve always liked pairing them together, but it’s never been considered ‘trendy,” so I’m definitely glad that black and white is in this year.”

Meanwhile, Brittany Curinga, a UF health science junior said, “I like black and white, but I always feel like there needs to be a pop of color… like a chunky necklace or a cute pair of shoes or something.”

As a collegiette myself, I definitely think this trend works for student fashionistas. It’s simple, classy, and easy to put together. You don’t have to worry about matching, complementing, or pairing styles. This trend is perfect for any gal on the go!
