You’ve heard it a million times: “Just be patient, you’ll find a good guy soon.” Every time you hear it, you roll your eyes and laugh because you’ve reached the point in your life where you don’t see yourself encountering a legitimately good guy anytime soon. As bad as it is, most girls don’t see themselves meeting a good guy now-a-days because of the way society is. You turn on the television on any given day and see a husband cheating on his wife, and it makes you question everything you read about in the romance novels or see in the romantic comedies. And who can blame you? Guys are one way in the movies and a whole other way in real life.
Us girls watch The Notebook and hysterically cry over how beautiful and passionate Allie and Noah’s love is. We watch Ryan Gosling seduce Emma Stone in Crazy, Stupid Love, and we melt a little bit. Here’s the thing: Ryan Gosling may be real, but neither of those characters he played are. It’s difficult to see epic romances on the big screen, scandals on television, and boring normalcy in real life. Our ideas of what we would ideally want in a guy and the real possibilities are often very different from each other. It gets to a point where we just want to throw our hands up and give up on men for good, but no matter how many times we are hurt or how long we go with no romance in our lives, we still hold on to hope. We still hold on to the hope that we will meet the men of our dreams because love is a magical thing, one that we know exists even when it seems hopeless.
Those fictional heartthrobs aren’t going to come sweep us off our feet. But as far as the real life ones who we haven’t met yet, they sure are. We just have to be patient and know that love comes when the time is right. Though you may be frustrated because you feel like the time is right at this very moment, you don’t know what the future holds. There is a reason why love hasn’t come your way thus far, and when it does finally come… it will be worth the wait.
