Savvy Updates: Nautical Essentials for Your Plunge Into Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Knee deep in the water somewhere…. well, almost. Finals are halfway over, and even though you can’t see the beach from your window in library west, you’ll be relaxing in the sun before you know it!

This week, I’ll feature some tips on how to incorporate a seaside, nautical look into your wardrobe by adding only a few staple pieces added to your wardrobe.

Just a Little Knotty Wedge by Lilly Pulitzer

The Summer Wedge. Adding a fun pair of wedges to a flirty sundress or fun top and shorts is an essential for creating the perfect summer look. Wedges are easy to wear as well since they are easy to walk in and won’t hurt your feet at that outdoor BBQ. This wedge is great because of the rope detailing. Pair it with a blue seersucker dress and you will have the perfect nautical dinner date outfit.

Blouson Dress in Stripe by J.Crew

Stripes. This cotton dress is perfect for an afternoon of relaxation by the pool or a night out at the tiki bar. Stripes are essential to create a nautical accent to your outfit. This dress by J.Crew is great for someone who isn’t overwhelmed by stripes—if it’s too much for you, try pairing a striped boat neck tee with solid color shorts or a pair of jeans. Traditional navy and white stripes are the classic nautical look, but feel free to mix it up in effort to create an outfit that portrays your personality.

Blue Knotted Rope Necklace available at Target

Knotty Necklaces. One of the best trends of the summer is incorporating rope into your wardrobe. From belts to bracelets to necklaces, rope accents are everywhere, and truly help to create that perfect addition to a seaside inspired outfit. This necklace available at Target is perfect to give a nautical accent to a simple outfit, and it even has a matching bracelet. The easiest way to incorporate a nautical theme into your wardrobe is by accessorizing, so keep an eye out for statement pieces that make you think of summer.
