The Top 7 Things to Do with Your Significant Other During Spooky Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Can you feel it?

The gentle, cool breeze in the midst of the warm weather, the smell of pumpkin spice making its way through the air from a nearby coffee shop, the warmth of the cozy sweater you’ve been waiting for months to wear…that’s right, fall is officially here and what better way to spend the cooler weather and spooky season than spending time with your significant other?

Here are seven fun and fresh ways you can enjoy the magic of fall with your lover:

 Spooky glamping and movie night

Is it just me or does everyone else also watch “A Nightmare Before Christmas” at least three times during spooky season?

It’s personally one of my favorite Halloween movies to watch at this time of year, but why not double the fun and let your significant other join in?

To make this unlike any spooky movie date you’ve never seen before, set up an outdoor projector and screen.

This can either be an actual screen or, if you’re budget-friendly like me, hanging up a large white sheet will do.

Set up a large camping tent outside as well and fill it with cozy decorations such as warm blankets, soft pillows, dim fairy lights, tea candles, and even a fall-scented candle or two to really spice up the fall vibes.

You may even want to set up a small campfire crackling nearby to warm you up should the night turn chilly.

This would be a great opportunity to make some s’mores as well as any other comfort campfire food you’d like as well.

As for the spooky movies, the classics are always good options to turn to!

Any of Tim Burton’s movies such as “The Corpse Bride” or “The Nightmare Before Christmas” are cult favorites, but any other oldies will do too!

“Hocus Pocus,” “The Addams Family,” “Monster House,” “Coraline,” and “Beetlejuice” are great movies to binge with your significant other. If you truly want to be spooked to the core, movies such as “The Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and “The Ring” will definitely do the job.

Halloween cookie-making day

Cookie making with your significant other is an essential during any holiday, which makes Halloween no exception.

You can easily pair these delightful snacks with a warm drink such as a chai tea latte or a pumpkin spiced coffee.

I think my absolute favorite cookies to eat during this time of the year has to be the Pillsbury Shape Pumpkin Sugar Cookies, and if you know exactly what I’m talking about then you know these sugar cookies are the absolute best in the world.

If you like having some variety, they are available in ghost form, too!

If you’re more of a creative baker, you can make cookies from scratch, which I think is a lot more fun.

A nice activity you and your significant other could do after you finish baking the cookies is to sell them to kids  or give them away to people on the streets who are in need of food during the holiday season.

There’s nothing sweeter than doing a good deed or two—even during spooky season!

Haunted house double date

Prepare for trouble, and make it double! Hit up another couple and plan a double date together to go to a haunted house.

Whether hosted by a local school, a carnival, or even a neighbor’s homemade haunted house, no matter which house you go to, it will always be guaranteed fun; after all, it’s better to be scared with several people at once!

On another note, if going to a haunted house is not the move, you can also try hosting your own haunted house in your own neighborhood.

This may take some time and effort to plan, but to make the process faster and easier, enlist some friends to join in on the fun and if it gathers enough attention from the community, you can charge a small fee for entry and earn some quick cash.

Not a bad way to make some money moves this spooky season!

Halloween Horror Nights date

If you’ve ever attended Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, you know it is truly a night to remember—and that’s because it can be incredibly scary sometimes!

Why not make it more memorable by spending it with your significant other as zombies and chainsaw-wielding killers chase after you?

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights brings together stories and visions from the world’s most notorious creators of horror and make them come alive in a series of truly spooky, heart-racing haunted houses.

If you decide to order tickets online, the cost will range from $67.99 to $93.99 plus tax per person for one night, depending on which day or week you decide to go.

Generally, the closer it is to the weekend, the more costly the tickets will cost.

If you are trying to be as budget-friendly as possible, it’s suggested to go sometime between Monday and Wednesday and certain Sundays of the month.

Good news: If you’re planning to go on Halloween Day, it will be $67.99.*

Make sure to plan accordingly so that your spooky night with your partner at Halloween Horror Nights is as hassle-free as possible.

Fall candle-making

As someone who adores any sort of seasonal craft-making activity, creating homemade fall scented candles with a loved one beats simply buying one at a store.

This is an incredibly easy and fun activity that is inexpensive to do with your loved one.

All that is needed are jars of any shape or size, candle wax (I personally recommend beeswax, specifically ones that are in granules rather than a bar to make the melting process easier) candle wicks and any scented essential oil that reminds you of fall.

For me, the first scent that comes to mind is pumpkin spice, but you can work with anything!

There are many helpful tutorials online that can show you how to make candles, but you can still figure the process out on your own since all you have to do is to insert the wick into the jar, melt the wax, mix in a couple drops of essential oil, and pour the melted wax into the jar.

You can create as many candles as you and your partner like; after all, it’ll become a memento for whenever you light one of these candles and you can be reminded of the fun time you shared together.

Pumpkin-carving competition

Pumpkin carving is such a classic activity to do every Halloween, yet it never gets old!

The process of picking out a pumpkin at a local pumpkin patch is so much fun—and even better, you can take cute couple pictures together at the patch as a memory of the time spent together.

When it’s time to carve those pumpkins you’ve picked out, start a competition to see who can come up with the most creative carving and the winner gets a prize.

I find it to be more fun if the stakes are raised very high to increase the level of competition, creating more of an incentive to win.

Pet costume crafting competition

Last but not least, compete with your partner to see who can create the best and most creative costume for your pets!

You two can have free reign with what you should dress the pet up as, or if you choose, you can have different categories for different types of costumes.

This can range from superheroes and monsters to movie characters and famous celebrities.

So hit up your local craft store and go wild on your costumes!

Fall is truly one of the best seasons where you can participate in so many kinds of activities to bond with your significant other.

There has to be some kind of magic in the crisp, cool air that really brings about these feelings of wanting to be closer with your loved one, and these are just some of the many ideas you can use to plan a spooky date or two.

Now go out there and have some fun with your boo! Happy Halloween!
