UFashion: The Need for Blood (Oxblood!)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Fashion’s latest color of oxblood is sure to get your blood pumping.

Don’t be deterred by the name, oxblood is just a fancy name for burgundy. This deep red hue is more versatile than traditional winter red. Oxblood embodies hints of brown, making it one of the easiest colors to pair this fall. Whether it’s an oxblood dress, a handbag or a pair of shoes, this color is a fall staple.
Oxblood’s deep, rich color makes just about anything look sophisticated, edgy and luxe. You can pair oxblood with your summer or fall wardrobe, making it a great seasonal transition piece. Try mixing elements of leather or wool with oxblood to offset the neutrals or pair it with bights, like orange, teal and blue to transition from summer to autumn.

Oxblood is being named the “new back.” This season, swap out your LBD for a burgundy upgrade. You can also try a maroon trouser instead of black; it’s just as slimming!

Here are some fun ideas of how to incorporate oxblood into your everyday fall wardrobe:

1. Try Essie’s “Lacy Not Racy” nail polish to add a pop of oxblood in every outfit.
2. Dorothy Perkins’ wine open stitch jumper to incorporate a fall knit with a fall color trend.
3. Urban Outfitter’s Sparkle & Fade Pleat Front Trouser for a slimming business look.
