Over summer break, I decided to attempt to binge every show on Netflix I possibly could. Riverdale was included in that ever-growing list of TV shows. I wasn’t hooked at first. It seemed a little cheesy and I couldn’t help but think of Cole Sprouse as his character on Suite Life of Zack and Cody. It wasn’t long until I was hooked.
Riverdale is a combination of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars set in the cutest little town. I finally managed to get over the fact that Cole Sprouse is an actual actor and then, I became obsessed with KJ Apa. Besides the addictive storyline and the suspenseful cliffhangers, Riverdale offers viewers plenty of fashion inspiration. Even though it is set in modern society, Riverdale utilizes its classic storyline to create a timeless style. I’ve created four looks inspired by the four main characters.
Archie Andrews
Archie Andrews is Riverdale’s very own golden boy. If you are familiar with the comic books, you can recognize Archie by his striking red hair. Archie isn’t just known for his hair. His style is very much jock inspired. He’s always seen with his Riverdale High varsity jacket. You don’t have to walk around like you are a decorated high school athlete to achieve this classic look. All you need is a nice pair of light wash jeans, a varsity style t-shirt, some high-top sneakers and a light-colored hoodie. You can take some fashion tips from Archie, but I wouldn’t recommend taking tips from him when it comes to extracurricular activities.
Betty Cooper
Betty Cooper is an exact definition of the girl next door. Her closet is full of pastel sweaters and sweet dresses. Something that really stuck out to me while watching this show is that Betty’s style most aligns with her comic book counterpart. She’s known for her high ponytail, expert sleuthing skills and loyalty to her friends. While a slicked-back high ponytail may not be your style, you can get inspiration from Betty’s sweet and girly style. All you need to achieve this look is a sweet collared dress, pastel cardigan and some comfy loafers. Don’t worry, this sweet style of Betty’s doesn’t stop her from getting her hands dirty.
Jughead Jones
Before watching Riverdale, I had only seen pictures of Cole Sprouse and his dark hair. It was only until I started watching that I realized how much I liked this bad boy look on our favorite Disney Channel star. Jughead is one of those characters that you have to love because he’s so sarcastic and cynical. His closet is full of beanies (obviously) and plenty of black clothing. You don’t need to walk around in a leather Serpents jacket, but you can steal some inspo from our resident bad boy. To achieve Jughead’s look, just grab your favorite t-shirt, some dark jeans, lace-up boots and a jean jacket. Just because you want to dress like Jughead doesn’t mean you should join the Southside Serpents anytime soon!
Veronica Lodge
Veronica Lodge is the mysterious new girl to Riverdale. She is the definition of “boujee,” but we come to realize she’s just as loyal and caring as the other three main characters. Veronica is sassy, bold and most of all, stylish. You don’t have to show up to school in four-inch heels or tote a Chanel bag to take some style tips from Riverdale’s it girl. You can easily grab your favorite black dress and some heeled flats, but don’t forget a statement necklace. Veronica is rarely seen without her pearl necklace!
As you can see, Riverdale offers style inspiration for just about everyone. You can even experiment with different looks. I’m more of a Betty girl myself, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to try a Jughead look sometimes. Happy binging your new favorite TV show!
