December has finally arrived, and with that comes to start of my favorite time of the year. Stores fill their shelves with red and green, houses sparkle and twinkle as Christmas lights dangle from rooftops, and the holiday spirit fills the hearts of many. There are plenty of reasons why Christmas is the best time of the year, and here are five of them.
Decorations: Ribbon, tinsel, glitter and sparkle are all standard when it comes to Christmas decorations. Rooftops, fireplace mantels, trees and anything else you can think of get decked out with beautiful embellishments. Icicle lights and tinsel can turn the gloomiest room into a festive field of Christmas that spreads the joy of the season. Putting handmade ornaments, garland and the star on the tree is one of the many reasons Christmas is the best time of the year. Even if you are a self-confessed scrooge, lighting up the tree for the first time undoubtedly has a heartwarming effect on everyone.
Food: No one can deny that the merriments of Christmas allow for some festive feasting. Unlimited amounts of Christmas cookies and candy canes are a classic, not to mention the meal on Christmas day. The season allows for guilt-free eating because that’s what New Year’s resolutions are for come January! So devour as much fruitcake and sip on as many cups of hot cocoa as your heart desires.
Music and movies: The music and movies that come along with the holiday definitely enhance the season. Watching all the classics throughout the month is a must. And it’s totally acceptable to be listening to Christmas music 24/7: in the car, in the house, even in the shower. What’s a better way to wish you a merry Christmas than in song? It’s much better than a silent night.
Family: A major reason I consider Christmas to be the best time of the year is being able to spend time with my family. Although they drive us crazy sometimes, coming together for the holidays is undoubtedly one of the best things about the season. Especially now when we’re away in college, there’s nothing quite like coming home for the holidays.  Â
Christmas spirit: Aside from the occasional rude shopper and grumpy retail worker, the holiday season brings a certain spirit to all who are involved. Although it sounds cliché, the Christmas spirit is magical. The joys of the season bring out a generosity in just about everyone, which helps spread happiness throughout the holiday.
As I wrap up my argument, it’s clear that Christmas time is one of the best times of the entire year. It’s hard not to be merry with all the decorations, carols and cookies. As the holidays approach, enjoy the festivities of the season.Â
