10 Things I’ve Been Obsessed With This April

Springtime brings a lot of things: flowers, warmer weather, allergies, and of course — a new wave of things to obsess over. This April has been one of my favorites so far, and I can’t wait to get into everything that’s been on my mind for the past month.

succession

HBO never disappoints when it comes to its original series, and Succession is proof of that. The series follows the Roy siblings — consisting of three brothers and one sister — as they care for their ailing father and fight over which one of them will take over the family’s company when he eventually dies. Each sibling’s relationship with their father is strained in its own way, and it’s interesting to see how it affects all of the different character interactions and plot points throughout the show. And I know the description sounds boring, and that’s part of the reason why it took me so long to start it. But once I gave it a try and jumped right in, I was hooked. It’s not always super serious and dramatic, there are a few lighthearted, funny moments. If you’re someone who really likes strong character writing and dynamics, I highly suggest this show.

“Bad Religion” by frank ocean

Frank is one of my favorite artists, and every so often I’ll fixate on one of his songs and listen to it on repeat. This month’s song was “Bad Religion”. I love how the chorus feels like he’s crying out, and I also love the lyrics. The song starts with him saying “Taxi driver, be my shrink for the hour”, and from there, the song follows him as he’s having a deep conversation with the driver while they’re stuck in traffic. I love good storytelling in music, and that’s one of Frank’s specialties.

The Spider-Man movies (all of them)

Spider-Man is my favorite superhero, and every so often, I go back and rewatch every single movie. Because I’m a big fan, I don’t particularly dislike any of the movies, but there are ones that I enjoy more than others. Sometimes I watch in order, and then other times I watch based on which one I’m in the mood for until I’ve crossed them all off the list. I like all three actors who’ve played the role too (but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Andrew Garfield).

The fault in our stars

I recently saw a TikTok reminiscing on the 2014 Tumblr era, and they included The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I was obsessed with the book in the 6th grade, and I reread it over and over throughout middle school. I was first in line for the movie adaptation and 12-year-old me could’ve sworn to you that it was peak literature. I got an itch to reread and rewatch it again because I haven’t done so in years. I love the nostalgia it brings and I love experiencing those same iconic scenes and quotes that I used to fawn over with my friends.

Making Bracelets

I’ve been getting an influx of TikToks on my For You page about Swifties making bracelets for the Eras Tour. It’s made me want to pick up a new hobby and I’ve been watching all sorts of bracelet-making tutorials and videos so I know which beads are the best and what methods are better for crafting. I really like activities that I can put a lot of time into or do mindlessly while doing other things like watching tv or listening to music.

NYX Line Loud Lip pencil

I think that lip liner is essential to make any lip combo the perfect lip combo. I’ve been using the NYX Line Loud Lip Pencil in the shade “Rebel Kind”. It’s the perfect shade of brown and looks good with any lip gloss or lipstick in any shade. It glides on easily and blends out nicely.

“Left Right” by xg

I’ve been obsessed with this song since I first heard it. I think it’s so fun and catchy; I’m always singing it in my head and the choreography is fun to do, as well. It also has a fun summertime vibe to it that’s getting me ready for vacation.

Tiny Hoop earrings

I’m usually a big hoop earring kind of girl, but my mom gave me a pack of smaller ones and I love them a lot more than I thought I would. I really like how dainty they are, and how cute the two hoop style looks with my double ear piercings. They take the outfit in a different direction from bigger-sized hoops; sometimes I prefer the more toned-down look.

American Eagle Ripped Mom jeans

I bought a pair of these over the summer while working at the store, and they fit me so well. You can easily dress them up or down, and even though they’re a bit on the expensive side, it’s totally worth it. I haven’t even had these jeans for a year, and I can already tell they’re durable enough to last me a good while — which is good because I wear them all the time. Being mid-size, I often struggle to find jeans that fit the way I like, and American Eagle has such an extended range of jeans and sizes that it’s easy to find a pair that you like.

Mason Gooding

I’ve been into Mason since he starred in the series Love, Victor (a spin-off of the 2018 film Love, Simon). His dad is actor Cuba Gooding Jr., but you’d never even know he’s a nepo baby because of how great he is at making a name for himself. Aside from Love, Victor, he’s starred in the new Scream reboot, Booksmart, and Moonshot. He’s super funny and relatable, and I love keeping up with his photo-dumps on Instagram.

April has been a busy month between balancing work, finals, and trying to end the school year. However, I still make time to sit and relax and enjoy some of my favorite things. Since the school year is almost over, I’m excited to see what the summer will bring.
