This will upset a few people, but we are taking that risk. If you disagree… too bad because these 5 reasons are undeniably why O-House* will always be the best dining hall on campus (except for the Niche—haven’t tried it yet!)
- Make-to-Order Hibachi
-
Sure it takes a while to cook, but who doesn’t love being able to get fried rice or noodles with chicken, shrimp, or steak (or a mix) along with your preferred veggies (or lack thereof) included in their dining plan?
My Go-To Order
- Fried Rice
- Chicken & Shrimp
- Steak Seasoning
- Broccoli, onion, mushroom, zucchini and squash, and pineapple (don’t knock it until you try it)
- Teriyaki Sauce
Hey, don’t judge! No one said this was supposed to be healthy.
- Coffee Machines
-
Other dining halls have coffee pots, but they aren’t making lattes at Keurig speeds! Craving pumpkin spice lattes, but not Starbucks prices? Head over to O-House and add a pump or two… or more again no judgment here, and click latte at the machine. Enjoy it either iced or hot!
My Go-To Order
- Start with ice and fill about ¾ of the cup
- Add 2 pumps of caramel syrup (sugar-free doesn’t hurt)
- Click iced drinks on the machine
- Choose latte
- Wait for the blue light
- Grab a straw, mix, and enjoy!
- Comfort Food
-
The weather is about to be perfect with cool weather and while hot drinks come to mind, I also crave comfort food to soothe my soul. I’m talking mac n’ cheese, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, fried okra, baked beans, french fries, wings, chicken tenders! It’s all here!
My Go-To Order
- I usually get a mix of the food mentioned above depending on what I’m in the mood for!
- O’Hacienda
-
While sometimes I might crave Chipotle or Moe’s or Barberitos or Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, I’m not usually nearby those places when I’m on campus. If you feel those cravings too, don’t fret! O-house has a Mexican-inspired station with burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and bowls. Perfect, even if you are vegetarian!
My Go-To Order (Use self-serve line to skip the lunch rush)
- Tortilla Chips
- Ground Beef
- Lettuce
- Pico de gallo
- Corn salsa
- Red onions
- Queso
- Board Games
-
This isn’t really food or drink-inspired, but O-house has a stack of games for you and your friends to play! Looking for a way to meet new people? Grab a game and start playing with a few. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone!
My Go-To Game
- I love Sorry! but Uno is my all-time favorite
Do the other dining halls have all of this? Didn’t think so! If you haven’t tried Oglethorpe Dining Commons yet, hop on a West Campus or East Campus Bus and stop by for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner!
