For all students intending to apply to Terry College of Business or those who have already applied, it can be overwhelming trying to find the best class and professor to fulfill your requirements. As I’m finishing my 3rd semester in Terry as a Management Major with an emphasis in Human Resources, I want to share a few of the classes and the professors I took so that you can keep them in mind when registering for classes this fall or in future semesters!
- LEGL2700 with Professor Hackleman
-
Professor Hackleman is easily one of my favorite professors at UGA, and she is the reason I decided to apply for the certificate in Legal Studies and consider going to law school after undergrad. Not only did she know and teach the information very well, but she also respected every student, made an effort to remember names, and got to know everyone. Before class, she would make an effort to visit each table for a quick check-in and see how everyone was doing before she started lecturing. This class is a Terry College requirement, so I recommend taking it with Hackleman. And if you take more legal classes, try to have her as your professor!
- MSIT3000 with Dr. Case
-
I was really nervous about taking statistics after hearing people from different schools voice their frustrations about the class. Believe it or not, I found the class to be really easy, and I finished with an A. Much of my success could be credited to a great professor who explained all of the concepts in a way that made sense to students who had taken Statistics previously and those who were completely new to the class. I recommend taking MSIT3000 with Dr. Case, who has printable notes available for students that match the notes that she fills out during class, which helps you follow along in lecture and also ensure you understand everything you need to know for the tests! Don’t be afraid of stats like I was, you will do great!Â
- Terry Core 3
-
All admitted Terry students have to take the following three classes in their first semester in Terry. Not all classes may be interesting to you and depending on what you are majoring in, some classes may be more interesting than others. Nevertheless, these are the three professors I had for the 3000 level classes. I found each of the classes interesting but especially MGMT3000. Guess I picked the right major!Â
FINA3000 with Professor Pope
MARK3000 with Professor Grantham
MGMT3000 with Professor Lyons
- MGMT5920S with Professor Matusik
-
All Management majors have to take Organizational Behavior. I have really enjoyed this class with Professor Matusik! He’s new to UGA and is willing to make sure all of the tests are fair and everyone understands the content from the lectures. We did not have any homework this semester and, likely, you won’t have any homework if you take Matusik in the future! Note: Make sure to start working on your project as early as possible so the end of the semester is not too busy!
- ECON2200 with Professor Rudbeck
-
In Terry, there is an economics requirement. To fill this, I thought it would be interesting to learn American history and apply economic models to explain how “successful” different policies were. This class has not only helped me see historic events differently but it’s also been a really fun class because of Professor Rudbeck. He has a great sense of humor, makes sure everyone is on the same page with the lecture, and helps relate the economic concepts to more relatable situations. Even though I’m in the online-only section, I have enjoyed this class so much that I signed up for another economics class with Rudbeck for the Fall!
- Bonus! SPAN4150 with Professor Matuskova
-
This is a bonus class because it is not required for most Terry students, but I highly recommend it if you are studying Spanish and can fit it into your schedule. This class is Business Spanish and reinforces principles you learn in your Terry Core 3000 classes such as Marketing, Finance, and Management, along with the cultural focus for conducting business in Spanish-Speaking Countries. Throughout the class, you get to create a business from scratch with a group and present it to potential “investors.” I really like the way Profesora Matuskova organized the class! I would recommend taking this class when you don’t have a busy schedule or you are willing to dedicate a good bit of time to it. There are a lot of moving parts that you have to be aware of and assignments you do not want to miss. If you ever want to do business in a Spanish-Speaking country or even in the US, this class can be extremely beneficial to you!
Hopefully, this helps as you register for classes or think about applying to Terry! We hope you find many professors you love throughout your time in Terry and at UGA. If you have any recommendations about some of your favorite professors and classes in your college, please let us know on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter!
