Emily Tower: Lacrosse Rookie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

This week’s campus celebrity is Emily Tower, a freshman here at UGA, who came to us all the way from Annapolis, Maryland.  An exercise sports science major with a minor in Spanish, Emily’s first course of action in August was joining Phi Mu fraternity, shortly followed by the morale committee for UGA Miracle.

Emily is best known in her sorority for her card tricks.  If asked what one of her greatest accomplishments was freshman year, it would be getting her group of friends to start playing Catch Phrase at every event together.  The other would be the extended periods of time she has spent in Bolton.  Few freshmen can boast of sitting at a table in the dining hall for four hours straight.  And then shamelessly going back for dinner.  And of course, grabbing two chocolate chip cookies on the way out.

Since arriving at UGA, Emily has become hooked on Grey’s Anatomy, spending numerous hours of the day melting at the sight of McDreamy and McSteamy.  If she could be any of the characters on the show, she would have to be a mix of Christina and Meredith.  Her other choice of television would be the classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

These days, however, Emily spends more time at the lacrosse field than in front of the computer.  One of five impressive rookies to make the club lacrosse team this fall, Emily went through a strenuous try out process.  UGA’s women’s team has recently returned from California where they defeated the number one and two club teams, Colorado State and University of California at Santa Barbara, highlights and pre-season goals for Emily and the team. When I asked about the trip, Emily shared,

“Cali was the turning point for the team.  Everyone got to know each other super well, which is especially crucial for the rookies.”

Be sure to cheer Emily and her teammates on at the next game!
