Meet this week’s campus celebrity, Gianna Myrie.
A second-year student majoring in computer science and minoring in dance, you may have seen this celeb’s face around campus a few times say, performing at a volleyball game or two.Â
Gianna is just settling in to her first season as a UGA Dance Dawg.Â
“When I found out that I made the team, I really couldn’t believe it. I felt like everything I worked so hard for as a dancer had finally paid off.”
As a fresh face on the team this year, Gianna appreciates the perks that come with being a member of the team but she also mentions that there is a lot of hard work that goes into it.Â
“It’s a lot of hard work but it’s so rewarding! Our coach expects the best from us and I think it’s helped make me a better dancer in the last few months.”
So what’s her favorite part about being on the team?Â
“All the girls on the team and I are like family now, I really couldn’t picture this year without them. We all help each other to be our best and that’s what I love the most.”
Gianna is also a member of UGA’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), who went off to Tampa Bay, FL this weekend for a national conference.Â
Though computer science and engineering both hold a special place in her heart, she still hopes that her passion for dance will take her far beyond where she is now.
“In five years, I see myself either being a computer scientist (doing consulting or working for a company) or dancing professionally. I hope that dance can possibly allow me to travel the world so I can meet and work with other talented people who will only make me want to grow.”
