It’s a Saturday in Athens, you’re dressed in your red black, and you make your way into the stadium. Sitting in the student section, you’ve got a great view of the game, the football players, the band, and the cheerleaders. When the buzzer finally goes off after the 2nd quarter, calling for halftime, your attention will be entirely caught by the Georgettes as they make their way from in front of the band onto the field. As they line up, you might notice Kinsey Cutright, one of the tallest in the group, front and center.
This week’s campus celeb, Kinsey tried out for the Georgettes in April of this year. The Georgettes hold a number of clinics throughout the year, Kinsey attending the one in January, that allow the girls to learn the unique style of dance. Kinsey danced ballet throughout high school, but these routines are completely new to her. But she must have caught on quickly because she was picked for one of the coveted seventeen spots, with sixty girls trying out.
To be able to put on such a great performance, the Georgettes have an intense practice schedule. Kinsey is at practice from 5:00 to 7:30 every day except for Wednesdays. Even with such a grueling week, the games make it all worth it. They are, by far, her favorite part of being a Georgette. And with so much time together, the girls are a tight knit group.
Being a Georgette requires each girl to have a sponsor; Kinsey’s sponsor is her dad’s company. The team has to make appearances at the companies and businesses that sponsor them throughout the year where they perform one or two of their routines. Like celebrities, they then take pictures and sign autographs. Second to the games, the best part for Kinsey is the little kids that come up to her, wanting a few seconds with a Georgette.
Now that you know all about the Georgettes and the one and only Kinsey Cutright, be sure to cheer her and her teammates on at the next Georgia football game!
