Things to do on Saturday That Aren’t Football

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Saturdays in Athens are reserved for football… But what if you don’t like football? Just because everyone in Athens floods to Sanford on Saturdays doesn’t mean you have to. There are so many equally fun things to do in Athens on Saturdays that you continue doing past November.

Farmer’s Market

Every Saturday, the Athens Farmer’s Market sets up in Bishop Park from 8am-12pm. Go by to get some great fresh food and meet some cool people!

Catch up on homework

Okay, so this isn’t exactly fun, but you’ll thank yourself in the long run. Try to get most of your homework done on Saturday, so you can relax all of Sunday and not be as stressed the rest of the week. Go ahead and grab a couple friends and a shady spot and get stuff done.

Sleep

In order to get to a noon game on time, you have to get up and start getting ready waaaaaaay too early in the morning for a weekend. Catch up on sleep all day so you feel refreshed all week.

Visit the Georgia Museum of Art

The exhibits at the Georgia Museum of Art on campus are always changing, and they’re always so beautiful. Wander around the art museum on Satudays instead of sweating with 90,000 of your closest friends.

Go to the botanical gardens

If you wake up on Saturday (after the aforementioned sleep) and you look outside and the sun is shining, go to the botanical gardens! There are hundreds of different plants and all of them are so nice to look at! There are also walking and hiking trails.

Festivals

Football season in Athens also means fall in Athens, and fall means festivals!!! Check local newspapers and the internet for news about upcoming festivals and fall-themed events!

Saturday in Athens does not have to be synonymous with football! Be creative and have fun!
