HOUSTON, Texas, April 6, 2016—Her Campus at the University of Houston will host a Her Campus Tour stop on Friday, April 8.
The event will take place in Butler Plaza from noon to 4 p.m. and will be open to all university students, faculty and staff.
The Her Campus Tour is an annual springtime event that allows students to interact with the brands that they know and love on their campuses.
Her Campus UH members will be on hand to provide information about the chapter and act as brand ambassadors for Her Campus partners.
This year, Her Campus’s brand partners include ASOS, Camelbak, Micro Kickboard, Monthly Gift, Tinder, Covergirl, Kind and Skinny Pop. The event will feature games, giveaways and a photo booth—all for free.
“This is an event where different brands associated with the Her Campus demographic come together,” campus correspondent and Editor-in-Chief Marissa Cummings said. “The brands and Her Campus come out and offer a lot of free stuff to generate publicity on campus and get people interested—all while doing it in the most fun way possible.”
Situated in a high-traffic area, the event is expected to draw a large crowd.
“We have more than 40,000 students at UH so we’re hoping that a lot of people will stop by and get to know us,” Treasurer Leila Woheidy said. “We’re also promoting [the tour] on social media and we’re hanging up fliers.”
The University of Houston is one of six lucky campuses chosen to host a Her Campus Tour stop.
“It’s an incredible opportunity,” Cummings said. “It actually means that we have an attractive campus as well. Her Campus has confidence that we will be a great host university for their biggest event.”
Her Campus UH was selected from more than 300 Her Campus chapters across the nation.
“It’s a really big honor,” Cummings said. “We have a big enough following on our website to get the tour to come to UH. As a chapter just starting out, that means we’re doing really well.”
Her Campus UH launched in September of 2015 with only two members. Cummings grew the organization’s roster with fliers, campus radio interviews and word-of-mouth.
“I didn’t know that UH had a Her Campus chapter until I saw one of the fliers,” blogger and Secretary Bianca Baymon said. “I had always wanted to write, to explore my creative side, and I felt I could definitely do that with Her Campus.”
Since becoming a registered student organization in January, Her Campus UH has added even more members and has reached several milestones—reaching 1,000 unique views last month.
“I hope that this event will bring more awareness to our chapter,” Cummings said. “Even though we’re getting a big following, a lot of people still don’t know who we are. Since we’re based online, it’s hard to get our publication in front of people’s faces. If we can get people excited and they can see what Her Campus is all about, they’ll get more involved with our chapter.”
