I don’t know about you but quarantine has stressed me out! With all of the academic, personal, and domestic issues, you would think that I would be working a full-time job and paying my own bills. I understand that growing up and facing struggles is a part of adulthood because you can learn from your experiences and try to do better the next time. I also think about the future success I want to endure and the people I want to make proud. Sometimes you just want to take a break and dream more about the kind of world you want to live in because it’s easier to fantasize about what your heart so desires. However, in this world, if you want to make your dreams come true, you have to put in the work, and unfortunately, as the economy increases, people are losing faith in themselves, due to the fact that there is so much change and people are having a hard time adapting to it.

One popular trend that’s been in the media this year is health. People have been losing weight, gaining weight, trying out new diets and some people are getting alterations done to their bodies. I absolutely love seeing people make better choices for themselves and their bodies because America has a long, dreadful history of health problems, especially heart disease. Although I agree with people monitoring the types of foods they’re consuming and engaging in physical fitness, I believe that part of our wellness is making sure our spirituality and mental health are aligned with one another.

Therefore, I suggest engaging in yoga. You can never go wrong with doing yoga because there are so many benefits that can change your life for the better. If you don’t feel like running on the treadmill or doing sit-ups, I highly recommend stretching or trying out different breathing techniques. Here are 4 reasons why you should try yoga.

1. It helps with your breathing

When I first got back into my workout routines 2 years ago, for the first couple of months, I struggled with breathing because I wasn’t exercising regularly and it impacted my stamina. I had pre-induced asthma for quite a while, so I looked up a YouTube channel called Yoga with Adriene. Her videos changed my life for the better. Breathing helps me not stress over things I can’t control; breathing allows me to pace myself as I’m working out or when I’m doing certain tasks. Sometimes we all just need to take a break and breathe!

2. It’s a challenge

One of the reasons why I love to do yoga is because it pushes me to step outside my comfort zone. Most of the time, I have routines that I’m consistent with, so I’m familiar with the specific types of exercises I do. yoga, on the other hand, takes me to another world and it allows me to stretch out muscles I’ve never used before, and I can feel it. Stretching is one of the most crucial techniques that many people don’t engage in, since they think exercise is all about lifting weights and running, but that’s not the case. You should want to try new things with your body. As a woman, yoga also helps me with my periods and backaches.

3. It improves posture

With all the long hours on your laptop working on homework and watching funny videos on Tik Tok, most of us don’t pay attention to how we slouch so much. Slouching makes you more tired and promotes laziness. It also ruins your back. By doing yoga, you’re able to challenge your spine to be more straight and work on your shoulders. I highly recommend trying the tree pose as one of my favorites, it helps me to stay balanced. If you are struggling with bad posture, I highly suggest buying a stand-up desk or a lap desk.
