This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Watching a romantic movie on Valentine’s Day is one of the most common things couples, or even singles, do on this day. If you’re having difficulty finding a movie to make you feel high on love, or just simply can’t make up your mind, then this list is for you!

1. The Notebook (2004)

The most romantic movie is, obviously, a no-brainer to watch on the most romantic day of the year. The Notebook, based on the novel, written by Nicholas Sparks. The explosive chemistry, in this movie, between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams will make you swoon. Whether it’s your first time, or the millionth time watching this movie, it’s worth it! Just make sure you have tissues with you when you do.

2. Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Pride and Prejudice is based on the novel by Jane Austen. The classic old tale about the deep attraction between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy is not one to be missed. The storm of emotions you will experience while watching this movie is what makes this film special to watch. The wit, sexual tension, humor. Need I go on?

3. Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually is a romantic comedy and drama film that has the best British ensemble cast that will give you butterflies in your stomach. This film shows every romantic scenario you can think of. Being saved by a knight in shining armor. Check! A widower who gets a second chance at love. Check! A guy expressing his unrequited love. Check! Whatever you can think of, this movie has it. P.S. Did you know there is a Love Actually 2? It is a short film that was released in 2017 for Red Nose Day. Check it out!

4. Amélie (2001)

The French film Amélie, known for its simplistic yet imaginative plot is an underrated romantic comedy film. The film is set in Paris, the city of love, and introduces a story that revolves around a girl named Amélie. Amélie is a shy waitress who meddles in people’s lives for the better while she struggles with her own. This film not only dives into the main character’s love story but explores other stories.

5. Call Me By Your Name (2017)

Call Me By Your Name is not only one of the most aesthetically pleasing film I have ever seen, but also, the most compelling films ever. The film was set in Italy and will transfer you to live through a love story between two individuals and a passionate love affair. This film is critically acclaimed and has also gained Oscar nominations. The film is not yet released on DVD, however, it is still in theaters, so catch it while you can.

6. Valentine’s Day (2010)

While this film is not necessarily known for its amazing plot, it is truly a guilty pleasure for the heart. This film is another one that delves into multiple couples’ lives on Valentine’s Day. Who wouldn’t want to watch a film that has Taylor Swift in it?
