The former Spiderman actor is now going to play the lead in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s movie adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick … Boom!
The Netflix movie, like the stage musical written by the “Rent” playwright, will follow Jon, a character based on Larson himself, who is an aspiring composer living in New York City. Originally, Larson performed Tick, Tick … Boom! as a one-man show. However, after his death and the popularity of “Rent,” it was reimagined with three actors. In 2014, Miranda played Jon in a short-lived revival. This will be Miranda’s feature directorial debut and is being penned by Dear Evan Hansen writer Steven Levenson. He states that the film is “a little bit more about the person of Jon, and his life—what it was when it started”. Miranda and Levenson have even consulted with Larson’s friends and family to learn more details about his life.
There’s no set dates for the movie yet, but it could be a while, due to Miranda’s other projects such as writing music for Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid and producing the movie version of In the Heights.
