With another semester, at hand, let’s talk ways to get involved. Let’s talk ways to engage. Let’s talk UIC ENGAGE.

UIC ENGAGE is a program in which UIC students volunteer to tutor elementary school students around the UIC community, after school. The semester-long program involves various schools, churches, and community centers each designated with their own time and days, which students choose, depending on their schedule.
The new director, Miguel Alvelo, is looking forward to expanding the program this semester. That means more sites and more volunteers.
I joined ENGAGE last semester, and it’s been amazing. Working with youth is something I aspire to do, but just being able to see the potential these kids have is amazing. Also, since I am a Chicago native, it feels so good to give back to our communities.
The program is in search of new volunteers, as mentioned before, so if you are interested or know anyone who is, shoot Alvelo (malvel2@uic.edu) or Janet Omitoyin (jomito2@uic.edu), an e-mail!
And remember the ENGAGE motto-when you enter UIC, you enter a life of engagement!
