The classic film Grease is now getting a prequel (as if Grease 2 wasn’t enough already).
Paramount Studios is calling the prequel Summer Loving. The film is going to tell the story of the summer fling between Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson that is mentioned in the song “Summer Nights”. Paramount has recruited “Big Fish” writer John August, to write the script. However, no director or cast has been decided yet.
If a film revisiting Grease sounds familiar to you, it’s because Grease 2 was released in 1982. The film was liked by some, shown through its 53% approval rating by 393,826 views on Rotten Tomatoes. However, others were left wanting more, shown through its low 37% approval rating by the film critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It is important to remember that since Summer Loving is just in development, it might not be actually made. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, we can only hope for the prequel to do Grease justice (and maybe for it to feature some cameos from John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John).
